On day 1 we shall drive out of Kolkata, after picking you up from the airport to reach Malda. Malda is a city that is mid way between Kolkata and Siliguri. And for which reason Malda is idea for the night stay to take a break from the long journey. Malda is the head quarters of Malda district and it is divided into 2 towns. The English Bazaar and the Old Malda Municipality. Malda is situated on the banks of Ganges. Malda is a region which has a lot of historical significance. This day is very special in this trip as we are going to head up from Siliguri to Gayabari which takes hardly around an hour up the mountain road and wait at the Gayabari station for the famous Toy train to arrive. The scheduled time of the arrival of the toy train at Gayabari is 1.15 PM, so we shall have lunch and reach accordingly. On some of the toy train there is also available Vista Dome coaches in which case we shall go for that so that you can have uninterrupted views of the lovely Himalayas as the train chugs up the mountains. The train ride from Gayabari to Darjeeling takes roughly about 4 hours and it should reach Darjeeling by 5.20PM. The train still runs on steam and the ride will be an unforgettable experience for you and it offers splendid views of Himalayas through out the stretch. On reaching Darjeeling station we shall pick you up back from the train station and head to your hotel for the night stay.

On day 4 we shall start early and have breakfast or snack from the iconic restaurant Keventers which is among a must do thing while in Darjeeling. We shall also visit the Batasia Loop, the last point in the Himalayan railway where the Toy train takes goes around a circle at the edge of the hills to turn around. Also we can enjoy the views of Darjeeling and the lovely hills around from the Darjeeling rope way. After that we can set out on our drive to enter the magical Himalayan state of Sikkim. The drive from Darjeeling to Gangtok the capital and our first destination in Sikkim takes about 4 hours and it is a picturesque 100 km drive through the Himalayas. On reaching Gangtok which we expect to do so by 4 - 5 PM, we can check into the hotel and once you are relaxed we can go on a leisurely walk through the famous MG Marg, in Gangtok which is the main shopping area and the foodie street of the city.

Day : 5 - Drive to North Sikkim

On day 5 we shall drive to Lachung in North Sikkim. While we are Gangtok we will have to obtain permits to visit the Zero valley and Lachung area from the authorities. The drive from Gangtok to Lachung is about 135 kms and should take us close to 6 hours, especially so when we factor in the photography pitstops we shall be making as the route is extremely scenic and is loaded with numerous waterfalls especially so if we are going during the Monsoon time. Lachung is small town bordering Tibet and is set at an elevation of 2700 meters above sea level. During the winters there is always moderate to extreme snowfall and the temperatures can often plummet to -10 degree celsius, so make sure to carry some warm clothing accordingly. During winter time if the roads are free of snow and are open for traffic a drive to Lachung from Gangtok is a not to be missed experience. On reaching Lachung we shall not do much but check into our hotel and take it easy for the rest of the afternoon and evening.

Day : 6 - Yumthang & Zero point

On Day 6 we shall pass through the beautiful Yumthang valley in North Sikkim and to the Zero point. The Yumthang Valley also known as Sikkim Valley of Flowers, is set at an altitude of 4000 meters above sea level and it is a nature sanctuary with river, hot springs, yaks and grazing pasture on rolling meadows surrounded by the Himalayan mountains. It is one among the most preferred spot in the country for trekking enthusiasts. At Yumthang valley we can stop for a while and walk around by the Yumthang chu river. It is on this same region we come across the Yumthang valley of flowers, where you can laze around for some time taking pictures and videos. Zero point is the final civilian reach before Chinas border to India and it offers scenic mountain views from an altitude of 15,300 feet.

Day : 7 - The Gurudongmar lake

On day 7 we shall set out on a long days drive from Lachung to the Gurudongmar lake. It is situated about 110 kms from Lachung and should take us about 4 and half hours to reach. So we should try and leave quite early from Lachung to reach the destination and come back the same day. Gurudongmar Lake is one of the highest lakes in the world and in India, located at an astounding altitude of 5,430 m. It is considered sacred by Buddhists, Sikhs and Hindus. With the altitude there can be acclimatization issue so we shall be going equipped with oxygen cylinders. This trip is also available mostly only on non-winters, however we can check if the roads are open while obtaining the permission for North Sikkim from Gangtok itself. The lake and region around is just astonishingly beautiful and we hope to spend at least an hour around the lake before heading back to Lachung so as to make it to Lachung before night fall.

Day : 8 - Katao Round Trip

On Day 8 being our last day in Lachung and North Sikkim, we shall cover the last road accessible regions. We shall visit the Lachung Monastery first. Lachung Monastery is a Nyingma Buddhist gompa in the Lachung Valley. It was established in 1880. It is set at an elevation of about 3,000 m at the confluence of the Lachen River and Lachung River, tributaries of the Teesta River. After visiting the monastery we shall set out to Katao region enroute visiting the Khanda waterfalls and the Milky waterfalls bridge. The route is mostly covered in ice as we shall reach altitudes of over 15000 feet above sealevel at the Mount Katao. It is a photographers dream this trip as the vistas are just spectacular. However the good part is that the round trip to Katao Mount and back from Lachung can be done in less than 4 - 5 hours, so that we have enough time to explore the region well.

Day : 9 - Back to Gangtok

On day 9 we shall head back to Gangtok from Lachung. The trip should take about 5 hours of relaxed driving including the photography pit stops. We hope to reach Gangtok by 4 PM or so, and since we shall be left with some more time we can do the Gangtop Ropeway ride. The ropeway offers beautiful views of the city and the hills around. After we finish the Ropeway ride we can head back to our hotels to relax for the rest of the evening.

Day : 10 - Nathula pass and Zuluk

On day 10 we shall set out from Gangtok to the Nathula pass and the Zuluk region and do a round trip to Gangtok. The round trip is nearly 200 km long and should take us close to 8 hours of relaxed driving. We shall be passing through the beautiful Waterfall region and our first stop would be Tsomgo Lake which is set at an altitude of 3753 meters above sea level. From Tsomgo we shall head up to the Tiber Border to the Nathula pass. Nathula pass is a high elevation pass where the road winds up to reach the point Nathula. Nathula is the last point in India before its border with Tibert. Nathula pass is set at an elevation of 4400 meters above sealevel. From Nathula we shall head down towards the beautiful Zuluk valley of Eastern Sikkim. On the way we shall be passing the Thambi view point, which is also called the old silk route. The winding roads through the green hills is just spectacular and it is great spot for taking some great photographs. From Thambi point we shall proceed to the Zuluk region famous for its green meadows and beautiful vistas. Through Zuluk region we shall pass through Biring and back to Gangtok. This round trip is a must do in most people itinerary while in Gangtok because of the stunning views and high altitudes.

Day : 11 - Ravangla Park and Pelling

On day 11 we set out from Gangtok to western region to reach Pelling city. On the way we shall visit the Ravangla Buddha park. Ravangla in South Sikkim district was constructed between 2006 and 2013, and features a 130-foot-high (40 m) statue of the Buddha, erected to mark the 2550th anniversary of the birth of Gautama Buddha, as its main attraction. The site was chosen within the larger religious complex of Rabong Monastery, itself a centuries-old place of pilgrimage. Also nearby is Ralang Monastery, a key monastery in Tibetan Buddhism. On reaching Pelling we shall be visiting the Rabdentse Ruins, the ruins are that of ancient capital of Sikkim. The short hike is thrilling especially in fading light and it is a not to be missed experience before retiring for the day at Pelling to check into our hotel.

Day : 12 - Hot springs and Rafting

On Day 12 we shall be leaving Pelling slightly early to accommodate 2 very thrilling activities on the way. We shall be visiting a famous hotspring in the region called Reshi Hot Springs. Reshi hot springs is a natural hot spring by the river and a bathe in the hot springs is a not to be missed experience. After that we shall head towards Melli, a very popular spot for river rafting in Teesta river. We shall do a 5-6 km rafting in the wild waters of Teesta. The thrill of white water rafting will be a rewarding experience for the travelers to treasure. From Melli we shall descend the hills to reach Siliguri city in West Bengal where we shall spend the night.

Day : 13 - To Malda

From Siliguri we shall head back to the plains of West Bengal and reach Malda by late afternoon and on the way visiting a few of the famous monuments of Malda while the daylight is still left. After that we shall check into our hotel in Malda for the night stay.

Day : 14 - Back to Kolkata

Day : 15 - The city of Joy

On the last day of the trip we shall spend exploring the central parts of the city of Joy before it is time to drop you to the airport for you to catch your return flights home. We shall be visiting the central area including the Victorial memorial. We shall also do a short leg of the Tram ride in Kolkata so that you can get an experience of that too. By later afternoon you shall be ready to be dropped to the airport after the city tour of Kolkata.
