On day 1 after picking you up from Bhubaneshwar Airport we shall head to explore the Konark Sun temple. Konark Sun Temple is a 13th-century CE temple at Konark and it is about 70 km west of Bubaneshwar and should take us about 2 hours to reach. After visiting the famous temple we shall head south through the coast to reach Puri, which is just about 35 kms from Konark and it should take us about an hours drive to reach Puri from Konark. Before checking into our hotel in Puri we shall visit the famous Puri Jagannath temple which is world famous for the Rath yathra or the grand procession where the huge chariots are pulled by 1000s of devotees. After visiting the Jagannath temple we shall check into our resort so that you can enjoy the rest of the afternoon by the beach and enjoying the glorious sea views.

Day : 2 - Chilka lake and Dolphins

On day 2 we shall leave from Puri and head further south towards Gopalpur. On the way we shall pass through Chilka lake the largest brackish water lake in the country. On the banks of Chilka lake we shall stop by at Satpada for boating to take us into the huge lake and to spot the Dolphins that are typical of the region. After boating in the mighty Chilka lake we shall head further south to reach Gopalpur beach where we shall be spending the night in a sea facing resort.

Day : 3 - To the hills - Daringbadi

On day 3 we head off from the coast to west to the mountains of Eastern Ghats. A 3 hour drive should get us to the most popular hill station of Odisha, Daringbadi. Daringbadi is set at an elevation of 1000 meters above sea level and the region is much greener than the rest of the state. The weather is also more pleasant compared to the coast. On reaching Daringbadi we shall explore the region a bit and shall visit the beautiful Daringbadi water falls. Since we shall be having enough time at hand we shall explore the region in a relaxed manner and return to the resort by afternoon.

Day : 4 - Sambalpur and Hirakud Dam

On Day 4 we shall set out slightly early from Daringbadi to head towards Sambalpur which is a 6 hour drive through the Eastern Ghats. We shall hope to reach Sambalpur by 3 PM or so. On reaching Sambalpur we shall visit the famous Hirakud dam, which is the longest dam in India. It covers a vast expanse of area that blocks the Mahanadi river to form a huge reservoir. The views of the reservoir from the dam is really beautiful. The best way to get a good view of the dam will be through the Ropeway over the dam and we shall do just that. After that we shall go on a wildlife safari by jeep in the nearby Debrigarh wildlife sanctuary. After the safari we shall return to Sambalpur city to spend the night.

Day : 5 - The historic Cuttack city

On day 5 we shall leave Sambalpur to reach Cuttack. It is a long drive which should take the whole day as drive can take upto 7 hours. Cuttack is the second largest city of Odisha and is a city that has a lot of history. On reaching Cuttack we shall visit the Maritime Museum in Cuttack if time permits. The Maritime museum has some interesting exhibits that displays the states ancient maritime trade relations with far off lands mainly Bali. Cuttack city is also famous for its street foods which we can explore in the evening.

Day : 6 - Gahirmatha Marine park

The most interesting days of the trip could be this day as we shall set out on a 3 hour drive from Cuttack to reach the massive Marine wildlife sanctuary area of Gahirmatha marine park. It is the worlds largest nesting beach for Olive Ridley Turtles. It extends from Dhamra River mouth in the north to Brahmani river mouth in the south. We can have some close encounters with this delightful creature by not disturbing them in any manner. After that we shall head to the nearby Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary, which is spread over 672 km2. Gahirmatha Beach and Marine Sanctuary are to the east, separating swamp region and mangroves from the Bay of Bengal. The national park and wildlife sanctuary is inundated by the rivers Brahmani, Baitarani, Dhamra, Pathsala. It hosts many mangrove species, and is the second largest mangrove ecosystem in India. The national park is home to Saltwater crocodile , Indian python, king cobra, black ibis, darters and many other species of flora and fauna. We shall go on a mangrove boating to spot the Crocodiles and the other habitats typical of the region. And come the evening we shall spend the night in the beautiful Habalikhati nature camp. The nature camp is an exclusive and serene beach property of which the experience will last you for a life time.

On day 7 we shall return back to Bhubaneshwar the capital city and the largest city of Odisha. Bhubaneshwar is also called the city of temples as it is filled with a lot of historic ancient temples of which the architecture is quite unique. The temples include Lingaraja temple, RajaRani temple, Mukteshwara temple, Brahmeshwara temple, Dhabaleshwar temple, Ananda Basadev temple and so on the list goes. Another not to be missed attraction is the Udaygiri and Khandagiri Caves which is situated not far from the city. After a thorough city tour and a tour of the monuments, temples and the caves we can retire for the night at a good city hotel.

Day : 8 - The last day of the trip

On the last day of the trip we can further explore the various temples and monuments of the city if you wish or just stick to city tour and shopping as per your interest. When you are ready to catch your return flight home we can head to the airport.
