Day : 1 - Bimbetka and Satpuras

On Day 1 of the trip after picking you up from the airport, we shall leave Bhopal city and head south towards the Satpura hills. On the way we shall stop at the Unesco heritage site of Bimbetka caves. The Bhimbetka rock shelters are an archaeological site in central India that spans the prehistoric Paleolithic and Mesolithic periods, as well as the historic period. It exhibits the earliest traces of human life in India and evidence of Stone Age starting at the site in Acheulian times. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that consists of seven hills and over 750 rock shelters distributed over 10 km. At least some of the shelters were inhabited more than 100,000 years ago. Some of the Bhimbetka rock shelters feature prehistoric cave paintings and the earliest are about 10,000 years old (c. 8,000 BCE), corresponding to the Indian Mesolithic. These cave paintings show themes such as animals, early evidence of dance and hunting. The Bhimbetka site has the oldest-known rock art in India, as well as is one of the largest prehistoric complexes. Bhimbetka rock art is considered oldest petroglyphs in the whole world. After Bimbetka we shall go further south towards the Satpura range of mountains and just in the foothills is one of the finest Tiger sanctuary in the whole of India, the Satpura Tiger Reserve. We can reach in time for the afternoon wildlife safari where there are high chances of spotting some big cats. After the safari we shall ascend the hills to reach Pachmarhi hill station the only hill station in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

Day : 2 - The Pachmarhi Hillstation

Day 2 can be entirely spend in exploring the hill station of Pachmarhi. The most interesting sites to see in Pachmarhi can be explored with in a day. The Pandava Caves are a group of five caves in a small hillock in Pachmarhi. It is believed that the Pandavas during their period of exile took shelter in these caves. The archaeological evidences claim that the caves where constructed by Buddhist monks during the 1st century as they used them as a place of refuge. Next in lne we can visit the most famous waterfalls in Pachmarhi the Bee falls where the water falls from a height. There is a trek involved to get to the falls including stepping down a 100 steps. But the waterfalls is worth the trek for sure. The there is the Jata Shankar Caves in Pachmarhi are considered sacred as they are popularly believed to be the place where Lord Shiva concealed himself from the wrath of Bhasmasur. The caves boast of a natural Shivalingam under the shadow of a massive rock and the stone formation in the cave closely resemble the mythological hundred headed snake Seshnag. Jatashankar is located in a deep ravine with enormous boulders perched above. The cave contains stalagmites which are revered as naturally formed lingams. The cave serves as a shrine to the God Shiva and is a popular destination for pilgrims. Jata means hair and Shankar is another name of Lord Shiva. There are two ponds fed by springs found in the locality, one of cold water and the other one of hot water. Next stop would be Dhupgarh the highest point in the Satpura hills at 1350 meters above the sea level, it is a great spot for the views. The last spot where we can visit and probably the best spot for you to have a swim in the water would be the Duchess falls. It again involves a bit of trek which is again well worth it especially when you can end the days trip with a refreshing bath in the pool made by the falls.

On Day 3 we shall set out of Pachmarhi Hill station to Sethani Ghats in Hoshangabad. Sethani Ghats is one among the largest ghats in India. After a tour of the Sethani Ghats we shall set out for our next destination the famous Nemawar Ghats. Nemawar Ghats is very famous for its divine and highly ornate Siddhanath temple which is set by the Nemawar Ghats and the beautiful Nemawar Jain Temple complex. After a tour or Nemawar we shall set out for our final destination for the day which is Harda. On reaching Harda we shall check into our Palace like Hotel, for you to relax and rest like a royalty for the day.

Day : 4 - Indore City

On Day 4 of the trip, we shall set out from Harda to Indore City. Indore is the biggest city in Madhya Pradesh and is about 150 km and 4.5 hours drive West of Harda. Indore is famous as the education hub of the state and due to the same reason, it has a more vibrant feel to it than the capital of Madhya Pradesh Bhopal. Indore is also famous for its street food joints which become active from the afternoon. On reaching Indore we shall do a brief city tour before checking into the hotel. Indore has been consistently voted as the cleanest city of India and a city tour through its well-kept clean streets and avenues is a good experience for this city. In the afternoon we shall set out to explore 2 major tourist destinations in the city the first one is the Kanch Ka Mandir, literally meaning Temple of Glass, which is a famous Jain temple in Indore. The interior of Kanch Ka Mandir is entirely covered by glass panels and mosaics; including the floor, columns, walls, and ceilings. Adjacent to Kaanch mandir is the magnificent Sheesh mahal, a sprawling residential complex that once belonged to a wealthy businessman of Indore, which is now preserved and maintained by the archeological department of India. We shall also visit the White Church, one of the oldest and largest churches in central India. It was built in the year 1858. The church displays ancient British architecture, which was prevalent in most of the protestant churches in Britain. After visiting the White Church we shall explore the Street food culture of Indore and relish some of its best offerings at the Chappan Dukan food street, which gets quite lively in the evenings.

On Day 5 we shall set out North from Indore to make our first stop in the religious town of Ujjain which is just about 60 km north of Indore City. Ujjain is an ancient city situated on the eastern bank of the Shipra River, Ujjain was the most prominent city on the Malwa plateau of central India for much of its history. It emerged as the political center of central India around 600 BCE. Ujjain is an important place of pilgrimage for HIndus, both the Shaivites, as well as the Vaishnavites. At Ujjain we shall be visiting the famous Shri Ram Ghat, one of the biggest pilgrim centers in India as It is where millions of pilgrims gather during the event of Kumbh Mela. The aarti here is renowned and the ghat is known to be the oldest bathing ghat in Ujjain, almost as old as the Kumbh mela itself. After visiting Shri Ram Ghat we shall set off further North towards the Mandsaur district, where the most major attractions of this trip prevails. Gandhi Sagar is about 200 Kms and a 5 Hour long drive North from Ujjain and it is the site where the River Chambal reaches its biggest expanse as it runs into a reservoir of the dam by name Gandhi Sagar Dam. On reaching the beautiful Gandhi sagar Reservoir area we shall check into our resort over looking the river Chambal. We can go on a boat ride in the Chambal river, towards the evening and after which return to our resort to relax for the rest of the evening, gazing at the huge expanse of the Gandhi Sagar Reservoir.

Day 6 is an exciting day with a plethora of sights that holds great historic value around the Gandhi Sagar region in the Mandsaur district. We shall begin our tour with the famous Chaturbhuj Nala, the rock shelters stretched over the 5 km long trail with thousands of ancient rock paintings on the wall. Situated within the Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary, it encompasses the spectacular views of sprawling landscape and splendid water bodies. Belonging to the pre-pastoral (over 6,000-12,000 years old) to the early medieval age (10th century), the Chaturbhuj nala rock shelters are often compared to the UNESCO approved Bhimbetka rock shelters. Named after a nearby Chaturbhujnath temple, the site was discovered in 1977 by a local school teacher Ramesh Kumar Pancholi and his friends. Since then, these rock canvases have gained many international tourists and travelers who come to spend fun weekends. The second stop of our trip is to the Dhamnar Buddhist Archaeological sites and the cave temples. This rock cut site consists of 51 caves, stupas, Chaityas, passages, and compact dwellings, carved in the 7th century CE. The site includes large statues of Gautama Buddha in sitting and Nirvana mudra. Fourteen caves on the northern side are considered historically significant, among which Bari Kacheri (big courthouse) and Bhima Bazar are the most so. The Bari Kacheri cave measures 20 feet square and includes stupas and chaityas. Bhima Bazar cave is the largest among the group, measuring 115 feet by 80 and including vzhara and chaityagruha. It consists of stupas. Around the site is the famous Dharmrajeshwar is an ancient Hindu cave temple site of 4th-5th century. Dharmrajeshwar Temple signifies a brilliant example of Indian rock-cut architecture. This monolithic Temple has been constructed using solid natural rock, and the architecture is similar to Kailasa Temple, Ellora Caves. The main Temple houses a Shivaling and a murti of Bhagwan Vishnu, surrounded by 7 smaller shrines. On the way back we shall stop by at the Hingoriya Waterfalls a small waterfalls that will be a pleasant change from the rest of the sights around Gandhi Sagar. Further up closer to the resort towards afternoon we shall stop by at the magnificent Hinglajgarh Fort, over looking the Gandhi Sagar Reservoir. The fort is an awe inspiring structure that contains sculptures and relics from several eras, the oldest of which date from the 4th-5th centuries. Idols from the Gupta period to the Parmar period have been found here. The fort is named after Hinglaj Mata and there is a temple in the fort premises. Original Temple of Mata Hinglaj Balochistan is situated in the pursuance of which it is built. The fort is surrounded by thick forest that makes up the Gandhi Sagar Wildlife sanctuary. After visiting the fort we shall return to the resort for you to rest for the rest of the afternoon and evening.

Day : 7 - Gagron fort and Jhalawar

On Day 7 we shall set out from Gandhi Sagar to reach Jhalawar in Rajasthan state, which is just about a 2 hour drive. On reaching Jhalawar we shall visit the Gagron Fort which is situated with in the city limits in Gagron. Gagron Fort is a hill and water fort and it was built by Bijaldev in the twelfth century. Later, the fort has also been controlled by Sher Shah and Akbar. The fort is constructed on the confluence of Ahu River and Kali Sindh River. The fort is surrounded by water on three sides and a moat on the forth side. The spectacular fort has been designated as a UNESCO world heritage site. After visiting the fort we shall check into a resort where you can relax for the rest of day and evening.

Day : 8 - Sanchi and Bhopal

On Day 8 we shall leave from Jhalawar and head towards Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh state. Before Bhopal we shall take a deviation and head towards Sanchi stupas which is about 50 kms away from Bhopal and about 5 and half hours away from our Origin. Sanchi is a Buddhist complex, famous for its Great Stupa, on a hilltop at Sanchi Town. The Great Stupa at Sanchi is one of the oldest stone structures in India, and an important monument of Indian Architecture. It was originally commissioned by the Mauryan emperor Ashoka the great in the 3rd century BCE. Its nucleus was a simple hemispherical brick structure built over the relics of the Buddha. The original construction work of this stupa was overseen by the king Ashoka the great. Sanchi is the center of a region with a number of stupas, all within a few miles of Sanchi, the total comprising to about 40 stupas. After visting the stupas we shall head towards Bhopal where we shall do boating in the upper lake in Bhopal city.
